Digital Art Lessons

My approach to Digital Art is to prepare my students for the digital art world as well as add a skill to their resumes. In the beginning, students are introduced to the Adobe Programs of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign as well as the digital painting program ProCreate. As students progress the overall goal is for them to be comfortable enough with the Adobe programs to be able to take the Adobe Certification test.

Student Work

Movie Poster

In this Photoshop project students will create a faux action Movie Poster starring themselves or their friends. Students will need to come up with a title for their movie and take their own pictures to implement in the poster. Students will need to create a poster that has visual appeal that not only uses imagery but also uses typography in a way that gets time, place date and any other information needed across. They will pull all the key components (Background image, Title image, other text needed) into InDesign to learn how to properly set up proper printing techniques.

South Park Self Portrait

Using simple shapes and colors, students will create a cartoon character that represents them using a 2D animation style of the South Park characters as inspiration. Students experiment with drawing and modifying shapes, the Pathfinder Palette, and using swatches for color. Students will also learn how to move objects within the workspace using the Object menu.

Digital Painting Collage

Students will sketch or trace an image that they would like to digitally paint. They will then scan it or take a picture of it and add color using digital painting techniques. They can also use original photography which they then edit to add to their project. They will use Photoshop or ProCreate to create this assignment.
